My name is Glenn Miller. I started this blog in June of 2013 with the intention of writing about sports, movies, books and other things.

It’s evolved into more of the other things than sports, movies and books although I often write on those topics as well.

I accepted a buyout offer from The Fort Myers News-Press in April of 2012 after working there 25 years and have been working as a freelance writer ever since. I spent most of my newspaper career covering sports but also wrote about just about everything from theater to politics to veterans to the weather and hundreds of history stories.

I started my newspaper career at the now-defunct St. Petersburg Evening Independent in 1975 by covering a Boca Ciega High School football game. Don’t ask me who won.

March 2018 About update: Since starting this blog I’ve published a novel, “Grabmore.” I like to call it a comic crime caper. It’s set in a large newspaper chain and the narrator is a sportswriter. Gee, how did I come up with that concept? Anyhow, I’m also president of the Southwest Florida Historical Society and working this semester as a preceptor in the Florida Gulf Coast University journalism department. I continue freelancing for publications such as Florida Weekly, Times of the Islands and organizations such as Roy Hobbs Baseball, which holds its World Series in Fort Myers every fall.

    Glenn –

I am reaching out to you in the hopes that you might be able to help me find, or hopefully you may still have in your possession, a photograph of my grandfather. You wrote a wonderful article about him in 2007 in connection with the 90th anniversary of the Fort Myers Country Club (July 7, 2007 print edition to be exact). I would attach the online version here if I could.

I contacted the public library and they sent me a microfiche copy of the photo, but it really doesn’t do it any justice, and unfortunately my father or grandfather didn’t keep any extra print copies (or I couldn’t find any).

My grandfather passed away not long ago and it would be great to find a digital copy as I’m trying to piece together a quality copy of your article for myself and his two sons.

Any assistance that you could provide to help me complete my quest would be greatly appreciated. I also would like to thank you for taking the time to visit with him and share his story.

    • Andrew, I’ll try to find the photo. I recall going to your grandfather’s house to interview him. As I recall he lived off McGregor near the country club. Send me an email so I’ll have your email address. I’ll see what I can do about getting the photo.

  2. Glenn – Somehow I ended up with a copy of your book, Grabmore, at my bookstore, P.J. Boox. I don’t know if you know how our store works, but I invite you to go to http://www.pjboox.net to find out more about us and to start the submission process if you are interested in being on our shelves. I’d love to have you at either location. PJ
